In conjunction with Health Family Day, Wanita MCA is collaborating with the National Blood Centre to organise a blood donation drive. The event will be held on 14 March (Saturday), from 9.00am to 4.00pm at Dewan San Choon, Wisma MCA. We call on the public to actively participate in this life-saving effort, as a single donation could help save a life.
To meet medical and emergency needs, hospitals across Malaysia require an average of about 2,000 pints of blood daily. The Klang Valley alone requires at least 600 pints per day to sustain hospital operations.
During the fasting month of Ramadan, the number of blood donors tends to decline significantly, making stored blood supplies more vulnerable to shortages. It is therefore crucial for the public to step forward and support blood donation initiatives to help replenish the national blood bank.
Furthermore, statistics released by the Health Ministry show that the number of new blood donors in Malaysia has fluctuated in recent years. There were 120,929 new donors in 2022, followed by 118,285 in 2023. The number declined further to 113,786 in 2024, indicating that continued efforts are needed to strengthen public awareness of blood donation.
Similarly, data from the National Blood Centre shows that Malaysia normally records an average of 200 to 250 blood donors daily. However, during the Ramadan period, the number often drops by nearly half to around 100 donors per day, placing greater strain on blood supplies.
Wanita MCA therefore wishes to encourage the rakyat to seize this opportunity to participate in the blood donation drive. Donating blood not only helps save lives, but also promotes healthy blood circulation and overall well-being. It is a meaningful act that benefits both the donor and those in need.
The Health Family Day event is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend. In addition to the blood donation drive, the event will also feature a traditional therapy experience zone, including pulse diagnosis, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage, allowing participants to learn about different approaches to health and wellness.
Those interested in undergoing health checks or assessments are encouraged to register between 9.00am and 2.00pm to facilitate the necessary arrangements.
