A Time To Remember The Needy
REMEMBER the underpri-vileged this Chinese New Year.
This is the message the Perak Wanita MCA wants to send to the people this year.
Its chief Senator Heng Seai Kie said that during this season of merriment, it was important to remember those who were underprivileged.
“We need to remember these people because not everyone is lucky enough to celebrate the New Year with their families,” she said after handing out Chinese New Year goodies to single mothers at the Perak MCA headquarters in Ipoh recently.
She said that this was the reason Wanita MCA had been organising charitable functions to give out contributions to the underprivileged during the past few Chinese New Years.
“We hope to raise awareness among the public on the importance of helping others,” she said.
In her speech, she said the state Wanita MCA wing would soon set up a Women and Children Assistance Bureau.
“The purpose of the bureau is to help all women and children who are in dire need,” she said.
At the function, a total of 100 single mothers and 126 children received Chinese New Year goodies including snacks such as cookies, roasted peanuts, smoked duck, soy sauce and mandarin oranges.
Each mother also received a RM100 ang pow while their children received RM10 each.
Datin Chan Tat Chin, wife of Perak MCA chairman and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha, presented the goodies to them.
