LAWA is the first "One Stop Centre" established by a political party, Wanita MCA on 16 December 2014 to fight for justice, defend women’s right and female victims of all races, especially those suffering as a result of domestic violence and sexual assault. It proves that although MCA is a Chinese political party, we adhere to the spirit of 1Malaysia and are ready to help safeguard the interests of all citizens irrespective of ethnicity.
LAWA focuses matters on family and marriage, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. LAWA Centre operates from Monday to Friday, from 8:45am to 5:30pm (via walk-in, telephone and email), to provide free legal consultation, counselling and assistance to all female victims regardless of race, religion or background.
In order to improve effectiveness and efficiency, LAWA works with several of government agencies and NGOs as smart partners to provide relevant assistance to vulnerable female victims and help them emerge out from the shadows. The said bodies comprise of government agencies such as the Legal Aid Department, Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Human Resources; and NGOs such as Bar Council Legal Aid Centre, Association of Women Lawyers, Persatuan Kebajikan MAHA Malaysia and Be Good Do Good Association.
